Here's how it works...
- Click "Check your date!" to see what dates are available. You can rent the rock for $35 per week, Monday through Friday.
- Request to reserve the available date of your choice by emailing the Spirit Rock Coordinator at hmsspiritrock@gmail.com. Please include the following information in your email: the week you want to paint the rock; your child's name, grade, and track number; and your design plan. Ideally, the design plan should be submitted at least two (2) weeks in advance.
- After we receive your request, we will send an email letting you know the dates are available and confirming you have been added to the calendar as "pending payment" (meaning you have requested the reservation, but have not yet secured it through payment.) Please be patient with us in this communication! We receive lots of emails requesting Spirit Rock rentals! The Spirit Rock calendar is updated as requests are confirmed and paid, but there may be requests which are not yet reflected on the calendar when you are looking. We accept requests in the order they are received via email.
- After you receive the confirmation email, you will need to pay the $35 rental fee by check or via our Cheddar Up Site within two (2) weeks. (Please consider checking "cover fees" when you confirm your payment. The fees are under $2, and ensure we get your full donation. Thank you!) If paying by check, please make your check payable to HMS PTA. Put the check in an envelope and note the reservation week, check number, your name, and "Spirit Rock" on the outside, and deliver to the front office at your earliest convenience. Once we have received your payment, your reservation on the calendar will change to "reserved", and is fully secured. You will receive a final confirmation email from the Spirit Rock Coordinator letting you know this change has been made once notification of the payment has been received from Cheddar Up or the PTA Treasurer (depending on payment method).
- You can paint the Spirit Rock the weekend just prior to your confirmed date. Please do not start until all children have left campus on Friday! You are responsible for the entire painting process--both the design and any changes you wish to make to the base color.
- You can use any type of exterior paint, but nothing oil based.
- PLEASE take pictures and email them to hmsspiritrock@gmail.com so we can have them posted on our HMS PTA social media pages and celebrate your special occasion with you!

The Spirit Rock is specifically intended to celebrate our students and our school by highlighting HMS school and club activities, student accomplishments and birthdays, and other related events.
While we appreciate and enjoy supporting local companies, we have specific outlets for those wishing to advertise a company. Please see our "Sponsorships" page or email us for more information.
We encourage parents to express their family’s personality and values in communicating a message to their child; however, messages that may not reflect the school as a whole should be worded in such a way as to be clearly from the parent(s). This can be done by adding something as simple as, “Love, Mom and Dad” at the end of the message, or by preceding the message with the child’s name, title, or an endearment (“Son”, “Sweetie”, etc.). If you have questions, please reach out to the Spirit Rock Coordinator or to the school. Examples are provided in the slideshow above.
